Movie Makers with Candice

Movie Maker's Club will introduce young students to the art of film magic. They will get to play with green screens, stop motion, reverse and fast forward effects, all while writing and producing an original short film to screen at the end of the semester.

Candice Neu has been producing and directing since the early 2000's and is known most recently for Broadway Bound LIVE, Playing Games, and The Neu Agenda. She has produced teaching and training videos for APS and TMobile as well as dozens of short films and 2 episodic series. Catch her on TV Saturday Mornings at 9am on Comcast Channel 27!

Hip Hop

This foundational dance class will cover basics of hip hop dance and choreography. Students will work to produce a music video that will be included in the screened showcase at the end of the semester.

Music with Daniel

This class is a general music experience that anyone can step into regardless of their previous musical background. We will be using everyday objects found at home to explore timbre, texture, pitch, and rhythm and their various combinations. Also, we will use word games to brainstorm lyrics. By the end of class, we will create a short song that everyone participates in.

Daniel Bukin is a composer, conductor, pianist, and music educator currently based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His works as a composer and arranger extend from solo piano to full orchestra and cover many genres. Daniel draws influence from his Russian-Jewish heritage including composers such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, as well as from opera and musical theatre.

Registration is limited to 10 students per day.

2:15PM: Art with Shelly Schucker

This class will explore art with a focus on the creative reuse of materials from urban and natural environments. Art is a universal language that builds bridges of understanding and connects us to who we are while empowering a collective and innovative mind. Art making offers a way to channel the rampant emotional, physical, and spiritual disconnect in our modern society into innovative and original articulations.

Michelle Korte (also know as Shelly Shucker) has taught creative arts in public and private schools, museums, and community centers in Chicago, Oakland, and Albuquerque for over twenty years. She holds degrees and certificates in Fine Art, Art as Social Change, Creative Art Therapies, and Interdisciplinary Arts. She is impassioned about making the uplifting and transformative power of art accessible to all people. In 2017 she manifested a dream into reality by converting a school bus into a mobile art studio (S.M.A.S.H. Bus) and has since expanded her to work to include a growing number of communities, including detention centers, refugees, and teens experiencing homelessness.

4:00pm Movie Making II with Candice Neu

This class will build upon the skills learned in Movie Making I, taking students from script to final screening of an original short film. Students will participate as cast or crew for the production and will receive hands on training in each role with the help of industry professionals.
