Don't just take a class--be on TV.
This 9-week Advanced Acting Lab is a capstone course where actors take on a speaking role as a supporting or lead actor in a mini series, short film, or feature length film for broadcast on the New Mexico Education Channel. Student actors work beside professional actors and professional film crews on live sets for productions that will actually be broadcast on Comcast Channel 96.
PREREQUISITE: audition, letter of recommendation from current & reputable acting coach, or previous classes with Katharsis Media
Note: thic class can be paid up front ($525) or in 3 monthly payments (September, October, and November) of $185 ($555).
HOW IT WORKS
Students are involved in both classroom learning and on-set experience.
Part 1: Classroom Learning
During the first week of class, students are given sides for up to 3 productions being produced for NMED 96. They work with their acting coaches to prepare for and tape their audition tape and submit according to casting instruction. Students are then cast based on their auditions and receive scripts for the project they will work on. During the next 5-6 weeks, students work with their acting coaches to analyze, memorize, and prepare their character choices for the film dates. Students may do this with Katharsis Media coaches (see below for schedule) OR with their own coaches. 20% of the tuition paid (roughly $120) will be paid directly to the student's coach if they work with an outside coach to assist with the cost of classes. ALL STUDENTS IN LABS MUST BE IN A WEEKLY ACTING CLASS.
Part 2: On Set Experience
The week before students arrive on set, they will have rehearsals for any scene they are in to work with the actors in the scene and Katharsis Director, Candice Neu. This will be their final preparation for being on set. During the filming sessions, students will receive a call time and will arrive on set to preform in the role they rehearsed. Directors are prepared for working with our students, and this is the students' opportunity to shine! They are well prepared and have rehearsed their scenes and ready to show off their talent. Filming will generally be only 1-3 days during the film window, and tentative dates will be given to students 2 weeks in advance to prepare. Note that film dates and times are tentative, so students should plan to be available (or able to become available) for the entire filming window. Filming will occur during nights and weekends, so students in school do NOT need to worry about missing school and those that work during daytime hours do NOT need to take off of work.
Students will have a named character in the credits, receive IMDb credit, footage, and meals while on set.
FALL 2022 FILMING WINDOW: November 1-13, 2022 (nights & weeknds only)
A rehearsal / film schedule will be provided no later than October 15, 2022 so that all parties may adjust their schedules, however, please note that schedules are tentative and may change.
