Performance Prep

Updated: May 5, 2023

We all know that feeling of butterflies and adrenaline that RUSHES through our bodies before any performance. Some say that it's due to nerves, while others it's the feeling of excitement.

Either way, there are some moments where it gets too overwhelming and we need to figure out quick and easy ways to prepare our minds and bodies prior to a performance.

Here are 3 ways to prepare/calm yourself before you go on stage and shine!

"Shake It Out"

  • This is a fun exercise that you can do by yourself or with a group of people!

  • It starts with shaking each limb individually (starting with right arm and ending with left leg) You will shake that specific limb 8 times and gradually go down 1. (Right arm 8x, Left arm 8x, Right leg 8x, Left leg 8x, and so on.. Right arm 7x, etc.)

  • Once you get to your final shakes, at the end you let out a big yell and get all that energy out!

"555 Breathing Techinque"

  • This simple technique only takes 15 seconds and doesn't require any vigorous or loud movement.

  • You're inhaling for 5 seconds, Holding for 5 seconds, and Exhaling for 5 seconds.

  • You can repeat this exercise as many times as needed until you feel prepared to go on stage

"Planks"

  • I know that people usually HATE planks, but I find them personally so releasing before a performance, especially before a big number.

  • This prepares the mind and body to engage and focus on specific areas.

  • You can do it for however needed as long as you don't tire yourself out!

I hope you enjoy some of these techniques and use them next time you're about to hit the stage! Take care of yourselves and break legs!
